Blair Atholl Watermill
The mill played a central role within the local community until 1929 when, along with many of the other small country mills, it was forced to close as it could not compete with the larger mills who were able to take advantage of improvements in the transport network.
The mill is fed by the River Tilt which drives two pairs of French burr stones which are used today to mill oatmeal and wholemeal flours. People can now see for themselves and meet the Miller who will talk you through this traditional process and guide you to our tea-room where you can taste the delicious results. And don't forget to buy some oatmeal or flour to take home! |
