Poet MaqCoille - Strathtay, Aberfeldy

John Ramsay, alias MaqCoille, was born in Edinburgh in 1945 and raised in rural Angus, Scotland. With much encouragement from his friends in his home village of Strathtay in Highland Perthshire, he decided to record his first cd "Wind", along with a poetry booklet for the 2005 Fortingall Art Exhibition.  Much of this has been brought about by the cross- inspirational relationship with surrealist artist, Eric Timms, who created the artwork for the covers.

Below is one of my favourite poems of MaqCoille. It always brings a smile to my face when I read it.

Missis Brown woke up one morning,
got out the wrong side of bed.
She nagged at ‘er husband through breakfast
and gave ‘im a pain in the head.
‘e went to ‘is work in a fury
was rude to ‘is mates and ‘is boss.
‘e niggled away, by the end of the day,
e'd got all the rest of them cross.
Now all of them went home at teatime
and narked at their kids and their wives.
So if you're on a down, well pass it around
and shit up a few people' lives.
