Perthshire & Angus Provincial
Mod
The Perthshire & Angus Provincial Mod will be
held in Aberfeldy on Friday 13th and Saturday 14th June. The Junior Section for Schools from
both counties takes place on the Friday and entries closed on 30th March. Entries have been
received from schools as far apart as Forfar, Dunkeld, Aberfeldy, Killin, Callander, Kenmore,
Murthly, Crianlarich. Glenlyon & Rannoch. Many of the classes have very large entries indeed
and particular favourites are the Giles Cup, the Recitation from memory of "Na Raithean",
where there are 120 entries, and also in the Solo singing for the Duncan MacDonald Cup where
there are also 120 entries. Each of those competitions will necessarily have 4 or 5 separate
elimination contests in the morning, with the finals ir the afternoon.
Saturday is the Senior
day and also the Instrumental classes, which include competitions on bagpipes, fiddle, and
accordion. In the adult section, in addition to the solo competitions, there are entries from
the large choirs including Aberfeldy & District, Dundee and Cumbernauld.
The organisers are however, having to work around the fact that dry and wet rot has been located
in the Aberfeldy Town Hall. Not all the rooms normally used to accommodate the competitions are
available, those that are, have only external access and some competitions will be relocated
in the Recreation Centre.
