Killiecrankie photos

Site of a famous battle in 1689 between Government troops and a large number of Jacobites.

At Killiecrankie on 27 July 1689, the Jacobite rebels, led by Viscount Dundee, fought King William's government Pass of Killiecrankiearmy, led by General Mackay. The Jacobites charged down from the slope of a hill. The army was caught with the River Garry behind it, and charging Highlanders in front. Many soldiers were killed, others managed to escape.
